Houston Peridontist Receives Honor from the AAP

2007 recipient of the Master Clinician Award

CHICAGO—October 30, 2007—Michael K. McGuire, DDS, a private practitioner in Houston and clinical assistant professor in the Department of Periodontics at the University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston and the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, is the 2007 recipient of the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) Master Clinician Award.

The Master Clinician Award is given to a practitioner who has practiced and demonstrated consistent clinical excellence in periodontics and who has willingly and unselfishly shared that clinical experience with members of the profession. The recipient is also held in the highest esteem by the periodontal community and is recognized as a master clinician in periodontics. The award, established in 1987, is not presented on an annual basis, but is given when an outstanding candidate is nominated. This year’s award is sponsored by Hu-Friedy Manufacturing Company, Inc.

“Dr. McGuire is being honored for his contributions as an instructor, mentor, lecturer, pioneer of periodontal procedures and contributing author and editor,” said Preston D. Miller, Jr., DDS, and 2006-2007 president of the AAP.

McGuire is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and is past president of the AAP. Dr. McGuire’s research has received the AAP’s highest recognition for excellence, receiving both the Robinson Regeneration Award and the Clinical Research Award.

He serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Periodontology, the International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Implants and the International Journal of Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry. Dr. McGuire will be installed as president of the American Academy of Periodontology Foundation in October of this year.
