2007 recipient of the Presidential Award
CHICAGO—October 30, 2007—Vincent J. Iacono, DMD, is the 2007 recipient of the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) Presidential Award. He is distinguished service professor and chair of the Department of Periodontics and Implantology and director of the Advanced Education Program in Periodontics at the Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine, in Stony Brook, New York.
The Presidential Award, funded by Procter & Gamble Professional Oral Health, is given annually in recognition of distinguished service to the AAP in more than one area over a period of more than 20 years.
A member of the AAP since 1971, Dr. Iacono has served in various capacities, including a term as AAP President; as a member of the Committee on Research, Science and Therapy; the Continuing Education Oversight Committee; the Dental Specialty Recruitment Task Force; and the Task Force to Develop an Outcomes Assessment Program. In 2001–2002 he chaired the Committee on Constitution and Bylaws and the Finance Committee. He was recently appointed Periodontics Commissioner to the Commission on Dental Accreditation and is on the Editorial Advisory Board of the Journal of Periodontology.
