California Periodontist Receives Honor from the AAP

2007 recipient of a Special Citation Award

CHICAGO—October 30, 2007—Joan Otomo-Corgel, DDS, MPH, is a 2007 recipient of the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) Special Citation Award. She received the award today at the AAP’s 93rd Annual Meeting in Washington, DC.

“Dr. Otomo-Corgel is recognized for her exceptional work as the chair of research for the Greater West Los Angeles VA Dental Service and adjunct professor at the UCLA School of Dentistry, Department of Periodontics,” said Preston D. Miller, DDS, and 2006-2007 president of the AAP.

Special Citations are given annually by the AAP in recognition of outstanding work on an Academy committee or special project. Johnson & Johnson Oral Health Products underwrites this award.

Since joining the AAP in 1981, Dr. Otomo-Corgel has served and chaired a number of committees at the AAP some of which include the Education Committee, the Continuing Education Oversight Committee, Dental Hygiene Committee, and as the Board of Trustees Liaison for the Clinical Practice Committee. She has also donated her time and efforts to the AAP Foundation Board.
