Dr. Susan Karabin Served as AAP President in 2007-08

Dr. Karabin maintains a private periodontal practice and is on the faculty at Columbia University.

CHICAGO–October 30, 2007—The American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) has appointed Susan Karabin, DDS, as president at its 93rd Annual Meeting in Washington, DC. She maintains a private periodontal practice in New York, NY, and is an assistant clinical professor at Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery.

Susan KarabinAn AAP member since 1982, Karabin has chaired the Finance and State and Regional Periodontal Matters Committees, has served on the Board of Trustees, and has served as a member of the Planning and ADA Liaison Committees and numerous other committees and task forces. She is past president of both the New York Academy of Dentistry and president of the Northeastern Society of Periodontists. She is on the editorial board of the International Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Implants. She has also served as a member of the editorial board for Dentistry Today and Periodontal Clinical Investigations and is currently serving on the editorial board for the Journal of Gender Specific Medicine.

In addition to her work with these organizations, she is a member of the Academy of Osseointegration, American Dental Association and is a fellow of the American College of Dentists. Currently she is also Assistant Attending at Presbyterian Hospital in New York.

“I am excited to take on my new position as president of the AAP and I look forward to working with the Board to make the most of many interesting opportunities on the horizon,” said Karabin.

Karabin received her dental degree and specialty training in periodontics from the Columbia School of Dental and Oral Surgery in 1981 and 1984 respectively.
