CHICAGO–September 18, 2006—The American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) installed
An AAP member since 1968, Miller has served on the Board of Trustees and on the Committee on the New Practitioner. He has also served as president of the Memphis Dental Society, the Tennessee Society of Periodontists and the Southern Academy of Periodontology.
“I am excited to take on my new position as president of the AAP and I look forward to working with the Board to make the most of interesting opportunities on the horizon,” said Miller.
Miller is recognized in the periodontal community for his pivotal role in diagnosis, classification and management of mucogingival conditions. In addition, he introduced the concept of periodontal plastic surgery to periodontics. He currently holds visiting faculty appointments at four dental schools and serves as a consultant to the Naval Dental School.
Miller received his dental degree from the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry and his specialty training in periodontics from the University of Alabama in 1963 and 1969, respectively.
