IN-SERVICE EXAMINATION

This examination provides a tool for evaluating the effectiveness of programs and prepares students for the written examination for Diplomate certification.

2008 Examination Dates

February 25, 2008Application fees due in Central Office
March 17-28, 2008Examination administered by programs. Please check with your postdoctoral program director to determine the exact day and time that the exam will be administered at your institution.
April 4, 2008Examinations returned to testing agency (HumRRO) for scoring
May 6, 2008Examination results mailed to program directors

Registering for the Examination

The fee for the next In-Service Exam is $100. To register, complete the Exam Application Form Can't open this PDF page? Download Acrobat Reader. You can fill out the form on your computer and then print it out and sign it. You may also obtain an application form from your program director.

The application form should be mailed or faxed with payment by check or credit card no later than February 25, 2008, to the AAP office:

In-Service Examination Refund Policy

For a full refund, the American Academy of Periodontology must receive a letter by February 29, 2008, from the student’s postdoctoral director on school letterhead verifying that the student is unable to take the In-Service Exam.

From March 1 - 7, 2008, a student or school may receive a 50 percent refund. The Academy must receive a letter by March 7, 2008, from the student's postdoctoral director on school letterhead verifying that the student is unable to take the In-Service Exam. After March 7, 2008, no refunds will be distributed.

Studying for the Examination

The Exam is comprised of 375 questions based on current and classic literature. Recommended study material includes current literature, past In-Service Examinations and other documents listed in the table below.
