What is the selection process?

A three-person committee appointed by the Foundation President will review applications; and the successful applicant is chosen based, in part, on a research proposal he/she provides as part of the application packet. The proposed research should examine prevention of periodontitis and/or gingivitis at the primary, secondary or tertiary level. The definition of “prevention” is broad and may include treatment of periodontal disease to prevent further disease. Potential research areas include, but are not limited to implants, surgical techniques, periodontal biology and regeneration. The research proposed may be in the context of diagnostics, therapeutics, behavioral modification, or restorative conditions. Other factors in the selection include the applicant’s academic standing and passion for education and research. The Fellow will be announced at the AAP Annual Meeting.
