'Put the Bowers Fund Over the Top' Campaign

The American Academy of Periodontology Foundation has launched a new campaign that joins periodontists, patients, and corporate partners in a “win-win” effort aimed to push the Gerald M. Bowers Endowment Fund for the ABP “over the top” of its $1.5 million goal.

Here's how it works: implant companies donate implants (see box below) to participating periodontists. The periodontists place the implants at no charge. The patients receive quality care and also have the opportunity to realize a tax benefit by making a donation to the Bowers Fund for the ABP.

Everyone benefits. Periodontists can help the specialty without writing a check. Patients receive quality care plus the opportunity for a tax benefit for their voluntary contribution. Implant companies gain wider exposure to their market. And the Bowers Endowment Fund has opportunities for additional donations.

Periodontists who want to join the effort should call Sharon Mellor at the AAP Foundation (800-282-4867, ext. 3256 or sharon@perio.org) or contact their implant company representative.

Note: Participating companies may have limitations on the number of implants available per case or on the number of periodontists they support in the campaign. Please discuss this with your implant provider's representative.
