Dr. William Giannobile Elected to Second Three-Year Term on AAP Foundation Board

CHICAGO—October 19, 2006–William V. Giannobile, D.D.S., of Ann Arbor, Michigan, was elected to his second three-year term on the board of directors by the board of the American Academy of Periodontology Foundation. His election took place at the board’s annual meeting in San Diego last month. Dr. Giannobile is Director, Michigan Center for Oral Health Research, at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, where he is also the Najjar Endowed Professor of Dentistry in the Department of Periodontics and Oral Medicine.

Dr. Giannobile holds his Certificate in Periodontology and D.Med.Sc. from Harvard. He received his D.D.S. from the University of Missouri. Dr. Giannobile has received numerous awards and in 1998 he was the first recipient of the AAP Foundation Bud and Linda Tarrson Fellowship, a career development award. He is currently an Associate Editor of the Journal of Periodontology.

Dr. Giannobile also serves as the vice president of the Midwest Society of Periodontists and is the Chair of the Research, Science and Therapy committee of the American Academy of Periodontology.

The American Academy of Periodontology Foundation is dedicated to improving the periodontal and general health of the public by increasing public and professional awareness of periodontal diseases; stimulating and supporting clinical research and the generation of new knowledge; and enhancing educational programs and opportunities in periodontology. Periodontics is one of nine dental specialties recognized by the American Dental Association.
