The election took place at the AAPF's Board of Directors meeting in San Diego.

CHICAGO—October 19, 2006–The American Academy of Periodontology Foundation board of directors elected Michael McGuire, D.D.S., of Houston, Texas, vice-president at its annual meeting in San Diego last month. Dr. McGuire had served on the Foundation’s board of directors since 2003, most recently as secretary-treasurer.

Dr. McGuire is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Periodontics at both the University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston and the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He also maintains a full-time private practice in Houston.

Dr. McGuire is a past president of the American Academy of Periodontology and in 1997 the AAP presented him with its Clinical Research Award.

About AAP Foundation: The mission of the American Academy of Periodontology Foundation is to improve the periodontal and general health of the public through increasing public and professional knowledge of periodontal diseases and their therapies, stimulating basic and clinical research to generate new knowledge, and enhancing educational programs at all levels to create opportunities in periodontal education and practice.
