CHICAGO—April 9, 2010—The American Academy of Periodontology Foundation announced that it has awarded funding for a Charles W. Finley Visiting Scholar program to Creighton University. The award will help support a program for an April 9 symposium on "Clinical Application of Tissue Engineering Materials" presented by Dr. Michael McGuire and Dr. Takashi Kumagai.

“Dr. McGuire and Dr. Kumagai have a particular gift for discussing the emerging needs of advanced periodontal treatment and enhancement of the quality in periodontal regeneration,” says Takanari Miyamoto, DDS, PhD, postdoctoral periodontal director. “We hope participants in this symposium enhance the results of periodontal treatments based on the application of re-engineered periodontal tissue from biologically active molecules and patients’ own live cells.”

AAP Foundation Finley grants of $1,500 are awarded to accredited U.S. periodontal programs to offset honoraria, travel, promotion, and seminars by speakers in periodontology. The grants must be matched by funds from each department or institution.
