AAP Foundation Names Dr. John Herrington Recipient of Kramer Scholar Award

Students in their third year of an accredited periodontal postdoctoral program are eligible to be nominated for the $10,000 award.

CHICAGO, December 1, 2004 – The American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) Foundation recently named Dr. John Eric Herrington recipient of the 2004 Dr. and Mrs. Gerald M. Kramer Scholar Award for Excellence. Dr. Herrington graduated from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry, where he recently completed his periodontal postgraduate training.

From 1997-2001, he was on the University of Alabama Dean's list and the National Dean's list for his work in dental school. He was also selected as a National Institute of Health Research Fellow in 1998. Dr. Herrington received a University of Alabama Merit Scholarship for 2000-2001 and in 2001 received an American Academy of Periodontology Student Scholarship awarded by the AAP Foundation. In addition to his academic successes, Dr. Herrington was a coordinator for Habitat for Humanity.

The Kramer Scholar Award was established to honor the outstanding contributions of Dr. Gerald Kramer and his wife, Sylvia, to the periodontal profession. Students in their third year of an accredited periodontal postdoctoral program are eligible to be nominated for the $10,000 award. Nominations are made by periodontal postgraduate program directors. Critera for selection include academic achievement, community service and personal excellence.
