CHICAGO, December 1, 2004 – The American Academy of Periodontology Foundation re-elected S. Jerome Zackin, DMD, of Sarasota, to a second one-year term as president during its board of directors meeting in Orlando last month. He has also served on the Foundation's board of directors since 1999.
Dr. Zackin received his BA with Honors and Distinction in Biology from Wesleyan University, and his DMD from Harvard University, where he obtained a Certificate in Dental Medicine (Periodontology). He held academic appointments at Harvard University from 1957 to 1963.
Dr. Zackin maintained a private practice in Lawrence, Massachusetts until 1998. He has held hospital appointments at Holy Family in Methuen, Massachusetts, and Lawrence General (Lawrence, Massachusetts) and currently holds honorary appointments at both institutions.
He has held numerous positions with the American Academy of Periodontology, where he served on the board of trustees from 1986 to 1992. He received a Fellowship Award from the Academy in 1994 and is also a Fellow in the American College of Dentists. Since 1997,
