Eligibility requirements and submission guidelines for the Tarrson Regeneration Scholarship, which is intended to encourage research in regeneration.

What is awarded?

Two Tarrson Regeneration Scholarships are awarded, each in the amount of $37,000 per year for each year of the recipient's three-year periodontal training program. The scholarships are intended to encourage research in regeneration. Since scholars must commit to spending one year in full-time teaching for each year they receive the award, the scholarship also addresses the shortage of periodontal educators.

Who is eligible?

Applicants must be students who have been accepted into accredited U.S. periodontal postdoctoral training programs or are first-year residents within the first six months of their periodontal postdoctoral training program.

How do candidates apply?

The next Tarrson Regeneration Scholarships will be awarded in 2008. Applications must be received by July 15, 2008. Candidates apply directly to the AAP Foundation and must submit a packet consisting of the following:

  2. A proposal abstract describing a clinical research project relevant to clinical or translational regeneration studies
  3. Dental school transcripts
  4. Two letters of reference
  5. Personal essay
  6. Curriculum vitae

What is the selection process?

The selection committee is appointed by the AAP Foundation President. Finalists must be available for personal interviews during the AAP Annual Meeting. The two scholarship recipients will be announced at the Annual Meeting, and funds will be disbursed during the fourth quarter of 2008.
