Elibility requirements and submission guidelines for the Volpe Fellowship supporting periodontal researchers and educators early in their careers.

What is awarded?
The Fellowship is proposed to address the retention of top periodontal basic science researchers and educators early in their careers. The Volpe Basic Science Research Fellowship will be a $20,000 Fellowship paid in one lump sum. It is intended to provide personal funding and support to those individuals who may be facing educational debt while striving to establish themselves in an academic role.
Who is eligible?
Full-time periodontal educators who have been teaching at least two, and not more than five, full-time academic years and are engaged in periodontally-related basic science research at U.S. programs are eligible to apply. Applicants must be board-certified in periodontology and members of the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP).
How do candidates apply?
Completed applications must be received by the AAP Foundation by May 1.
What is the selection process?
A selection committee will select three finalists from the applications which are received. The finalists must then attend mandatory personal interviews which will take place at the AAP Annual Meeting. Two nights of lodging and airfare up to $500 will be provided to each finalist at one of the main meeting hotels.

Dr. Anthony R. Volpe has over four decades of experience in clinical dental research, preventive dentistry and dental scientific affairs with more than 250 scientific publications and presentations worldwide as well as several patents in dental science from the United States government. Dr. Volpe is Vice President of Scientific Affairs at the Colgate-Palmolive Technology Center in Piscataway, New Jersey, USA. Currently, Dr. Volpe is responsible for Colgate’s worldwide scientific affairs program, as well as interrelationships with all worldwide professional organizations.
