Medical writers and editors can help clinician authors effectively prepare scientific manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals. Authors should be cautioned, however, that medical writers have varying backgrounds, experience levels, and work styles, and it is important to carefully interview potential candidates. The most common characteristics among skilled medical writers and editors are abilities to understand science and medicine, analyze and synthesize complex information, and translate it into effective communications for different audiences.
