Dr. Frank Scannapieco
Dr. Scannapieco has rejoined the JOP staff as associate editor. He first held the position from 2000-2006 under the leadership of Dr. Robert Genco, former JOP editor-in-chief, and said he “greatly enjoyed that experience.” Therefore the 24-year AAP member was quite pleased when Ken Kornman, current JOP editor-in-chief, invited him to join the present JOP team.
As professor and chair of the Department of Oral Biology at the University at Buffalo (UB), and with an over 25-year tenure at UB, Dr. Scannapieco is well aware of the importance of the JOP. “The Journal publishes the science that will form the basis for tomorrow’s practice,” he said. “I often find the review articles to be very useful, as well as many original articles. The Residents’ Journal Watch is also an interesting feature.”
Dr. Scannapieco has received several awards and honors including the William J. Gies Award in 2009 on behalf of the UB PhD program in Oral Biology, the State University of New York Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Activities (2008), and has recently been elected Treasurer of American Association for Dental Research.
“A serious professional must stay current with the state of the art in the field, and JOP is a critical source for current information covering all facets of periodontology,” he said, adding that he looks forward to being part of the Journal process, assuming new challenges as associate editor, and working with a great group of colleagues.
Dr. David Paquette
Dr. Paquette, associate dean for education at Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine, has joined the JOP staff as associate editor. An AAP member since 1990, Dr. Paquette also chairs the academy’s Education Committee and serves as Board examiner for the American Board of Periodontology.
Dr. Paquette has an extensive background in academic periodontics. Over a 15-year tenure at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, he was appointed professor, graduate program director and interim chair of periodontology, plus assistant dean for graduate/advanced dental education. He joined the Stony Brook faculty in February. A winner of the R. Earl Robinson Regeneration Award (2007) and Clinical Research Award (2009), Dr. Paquette values the educational role of the Journal.
"I am honored and thrilled to be a member of the Journal of Periodontology’s editorial team,” Dr. Paquette said. “The JOP has a rich history and continues to have a major impact on our specialty. It communicates scientific discoveries, showcases scholarship, and educates clinicians at all stages."
